CLT base

Hi all,

Whats the rumor about a potential Charlotte base?
I know chances are that there will be a new base announced within the next couple of months, but do you think there is any truth to it being CLT?

No idea. Most expect either LAX/SFO/ONT (a cali base) or RDU.

1. My personal opinion is there will be no California pilot bases

2. I heard RDU was shelved due to some issues the City/Airport and Frontier could not agree on

3. I wonder if "more new bases" are still on the table right now

I'd say everything is on hold until the Spirit deal is finished, then they'll have their hands full with that for 1-2 years too.

If we do proceed with the Spirit deal this is likely how it will go. Frontier could easily backfill several bases and get the smaller ones up to around 100 per seat with the future deliveries. The focus would be on getting details ironed out for the merged airline.

I echo everyone’s responses. If we merge with Spirit I would be real curious what happens with Orlando and Vegas. Those seem like they would be too huge once combined.

Probably just do what they need and get them merged, then you have multiple bases with PLENTY of pilots. backfilling is starting with hiring and we will likely see 60+ in every base.

They do, probably shrink them a little bit and trade or move/buy gates in other domiciles. I know ATL is big for both as well. We get all the gates in LGA. ORD/MDW. it would be interesting to see how it will work with routes and the frequency we could offer which would cater towards that more business esque market BB so often talks about.

The recent NK furlough reduction bid has big cuts in FLL/MCO/LAS in that order

Makes sense. Sorry to hear.

CLT all but confirmed. RDU is not a possibility due to airport constraints. No room for crew room or other facilities

I haven’t been to CLT in a while. I was in RDU recently and was surprised how many planes and flights. Seemed like we had the back corner pretty well secured?

Our CLT ops are solid imo. I believe I read an article that highlighted that AA was our main target now. I think they're probably the most fragile of the big 3..I think CLT would be a terrific move. Just not sure how much additional gate space we could obtain over time.

Noticed we now have access to 9 gates in SLC up from 2? I've been hearing that rumor a while now, but find the additional gates interesting. Have also been hearing PDX and SEA.

Where did you see that?

While I haven't heard of any SLC, SEA, or PDX base talk I could see SLC or SEA since I’ve used Denver style outdoor boarding with buses for the pax at each. There also isn’t a huge ULCC presence at either spot from what I’ve noticed.

Aviobook update in the airport notes section. Updated in last couple weeks, I go in there a lot so was suprised to see it. We do have a lot of flying through there so it would probably make sense.

If you want to know where our next base will be, count the number of overnights at each station in the bid packets. I haven't done this but I would bet if you find the stations with the greatest overnights you'll find the next bases. Seems most of my overnights are in bases already so not in a hurry to see more stagnation that will come with a new base.

Were you doing a lot of CVG/CLE overnights before this year? Lol Idk if this is good way to tell.

Is that the public version?

I heard Barry and the airport were fighting over fees and Barry, uh, pulled out

Barry himself said he doesn't compete with Big-3. He competes with Greyhound. This is on a webcast circa 2021 or so.

Frontier is not "targeting" any legacies. LOL

We did open Phx, phl, Mia, dfw, and ord domiciles. I’d be surprised if clt doesn’t happen at some point. Barry says a lot of things.

Barry is smart and outsources "market research" to Big-3. He then sees that the last Big-3 flight at that airport is 11PM and the first one is at 0600. Barry then tosses a 1130P departure and a 0530 departure onto the schedule. Business 101

Barry also knows he cannot pick fights with Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis and is not targeting Big-3.

To your point, a CLT base would absolutely make sense.
