1,300 Frontier employees' jobs outsourced

DENVER - A total of 1,300 Frontier Airlines employees - including 1,160 employees based in Denver - are having their jobs outsourced, according to Frontier.

The other employees are based in Milwaukee, Wis. These employees have the opportunity to get severance packages or will have preferential treatment if they wish to pursue jobs at Frontier's business partner, Swissport USA.

Frontier spokesman Todd Lehmacher said that the "vast majority" of the affected workers are its "airport employees that we hope will continue to be part of our team through our business partner relationships."

The "difficult but necessary" movie was made so Frontier could remain competitive, the airline statement said. The airline has recently been dropping routes between Denver - its traditional hub - and other points while it adds flights to other cities, the Denver Business Journal wrote.

The changes go into effect in March 2015.

Here is the statement from Frontier:

"Today Frontier is meeting with its Airport employees in Denver and Reservations employees in Denver and Milwaukee to advise them of the difficult but necessary decision to transition the management of these departments to business partners who specializes in these areas.
Today's announcement is by no means a reflection of the service or level of work provided by our team members. The business partners we have selected are high-quality organizations and employees will be given priority in interviewing.
These changes continue to be part of a comprehensive companywide strategy that is crucial for Frontier to successfully compete in the marketplace as an ultra-low cost carrier allowing it to offer customers much needed relief from high airfares nationwide. Low fares are only achieved through low costs."

Two questions:

1) How many total employees does Frontier have before layoffs?

2) Does Spirit use Swissport?

Im sorry about this, especially in "Good" times.

Hmmmm, in less than a week, Spirit, United and now Frontier have all announced they're outsourcing jobs.

Just following the Alaska example from years ago when they outsourced the ramp to Menzies. Funny thing was, they kept the Horizon rampers.

Spirit & Frontier. It's pretty much a given. As for the workers affected by this.....that sux! Frontier people were usually really friendly and helpful. I hate to see this happen to them

I've been hearing that F9 is moving their headquarters to CLE. Both F9 and NK announced new routes from CLE last year. Could it be that the writing is on the wall?

allegiant air did this exact same thing in 2010 . used to be all in house . but not anymore . all you need to run a airline are flight attendants and pilots now

Frontier is too cheap and doesn't have the resources to move. And management is complaining about the Spirit competition in Cleveland. I don't see it happening anytime soon.
