Flow to Spirit -Correction to previous thread

The person who made the thread "Flow to WestJet" was mistaken and corrected himself, however I think that thread is probably dead now. I too have heard the rumor of a flow to Spirit.
Any truth to this?

WesternSkies 07-11-2017 01:22 PM

Confirmed.

Duesenflieger 07-11-2017 01:58 PM

The flow will take three years. Not bad.;)

Bloggs 07-11-2017 05:24 PM

Why not just submit an application to Spirit right now?

Why wait 3 years? What am I missing here?

WhiskeyDelta 07-11-2017 06:26 PM

Has there ever been a pure flow from a non-wholly owned carrier to a major or LCC?

Ferlofodder 07-11-2017 06:29 PM

The question should be: who is flowing to who? Many GoJet FOs will make double what first year Spirit FOs make. "Pay your dues" they say. Well I've paid my dues many times over in this industry, time to get paid. Can't stomach going back to 35k.

Purpleanga 07-11-2017 07:32 PM

I'm so confused. Is this for real?

theclaw 07-12-2017 05:54 AM

Yes, Spirit flow is real. I've heard up to 8 per month. Most of us captains don't care and wouldn't accept it anyway.

Skypilotsv1984 07-12-2017 06:00 AM

Has there been anything official posted about it?

SevereClear1 07-12-2017 07:02 AM

I heard it was possible that to entice more people that you would come in at second year pay

flysooner9 07-12-2017 12:18 PM

Is Spirit hurting that bad for qualified applicants? Just not seeing what they gain from this.

GoJet, being a non wholly owned regional, can't provide any kind of interview/flow program to a major. GoJet gets to advertise career progression.

Assuming the majors will drain the LLCs like NK and F9, NK secures a source of pilots.

That's my quick take.

flysooner9 07-12-2017 12:39 PM

any idea when details would be released?

I heard each "flowee" gets a new 321 named after them for a quarter.

Geardownflaps30 07-12-2017 03:23 PM

Go Big Yeller!

block30 07-12-2017 04:43 PM

I don't understand why Delta and United would be cool with this. I don't see how they could outright prohibit that, but still. ???

They could shift flying away from G7 if they wanted.

Why would it matter? As long as their feed is flown for cheap.

Like flysooner said, they could pull flying. Look what happened to Compass. They partnered with AA, and poof! Their flow was gone. Did Delta end flying with Compass? No, but I think they made some displeasure known. Though Delta specializes in business travel and more discriminating travel tastes, I would still think helping feed Spirit with pilots is not something they'd be thrilled about. As for United...I don't know .

Block30, I wanted to correct a few facts relating to Compass.

Compass was sold to Trans States Holdings in 7/2010. It was decided to end the flow program then, and the last flow-eligible pilots were late summer/early fall 2010 hires. I had interviewed shortly thereafter at Compass and they were up front with us that we were not flow eligible.

The AA flying was announced in either June or July 2014 and commenced operating in March 2015.

These two events were completely separate.

Their flow was gone after they were sold to TSH. Partnering for source of pilots is not a conflict unless Gojet is owned by Spirit.

The flow ended as part of the sale of Compass to Hulas. Only pilots on the seniority list as of the date of sale could flow. No one after that. Flow ended long before Compass started doing flying for AA!

Geardownflaps30 07-13-2017 09:45 AM

Well. Guess we beat that horse pretty quickly!

Why would they care? It would be different if they had a spirit and United operation and were flowing people who didn't directly support Spirit. But that would make Spirit upset, not United.

I'm sure United and Delta will be thrilled if Spirit gets almost nothing to ensure Delta and United fights have staffing. This is great for them.

That's also assuming they are thrilled with Gojets' performance and want to keep them around.

Bingo! Go Jets is about out of time to improve performance. The CS100's are coming to replace regional flying. Which airline do you think is closest to the chopping block?
