Commute from NYC to DTW or ORD
 

Hi,

Considering a FO position with GoJet. Does anyone commute from NYC to a junior base? How bad is it?

My other option is to fly the E145 for CommutAir out of EWR (smaller jet, but I could ride the train to work).

So I work at GoJet, love it here and would recommend it to anyone, but if you live in NYC why wouldn’t you think about Endeavor or Republic? Flying hub to hub (NYC to DTw) is super tough! And honestly if you don’t have to commute, your quality of life will be dramatically better.

Do yourself a favor and pick an airline with a NYC base. NYC is always the most junior base no matter what airline you’re at and it would be silly to commute out of here. I’m at Endeavor if you have any questions.

I agree with most of what’s being said above. Wish a had some good info on that commute. I’d assume the commutes in any out of nyc could be rough. But you could catch a g7 metal flight out of Newark or jfk. Which would give you some higher priority.

Just out of complete curiosity, it’s very obvious here where you should be going not even close so why commute to Gojet? Is it the slightly longer airplane as you say or are there other reasons? Also I’m assuming you were turned down by Envoy and Endeavor because those are your best options.

Thanks for the responses. The reason I don't apply to EDV/Republic/Envoy is because I can't at the moment. Long story short, I went to school overseas and I'm told to take the HISET or GED to qualify (even though I have a college degree). It wasn't something I anticipated until sending airline applications... I'll do it, but it may require a few months of studying. In the meantime, I want to be flying. CommutAir and GoJet are happy to hire me as is.

And yes, the slightly longer jets are the reason why I'm asking. A friend currently flies for GoJet and told me I would be crazy to go for a E145 over the CRJ700/900.

I see, I understand. As far as your friend, thousands of pilots have flown the E145 for almost 20 years. It’s a good Regional jet. It does the same things as the CRJ7 does, they have the same automation. You’d be crazy to commute for the CRJ7 rather than be based at home, at least if you do, don’t tell people that.

I can see commuting to work for a better company, but to commute *merely* for the chance to fly the CRJ700 over the E145 is foolish.

Lol if we’re going down that route you can say the 145XR is a cooler airplane than the CRJ7. More power than the standard 145.

I was also under the impression that at the end of the day, a RJ is a RJ, and never fully understood why some CRJ pilots bash the E145.
