I’m not sure if the RLA allows closed shops.

Why would he choose not to join the union? Is he still required to pay dues for the contract?

As a person who is considering the airlines as a career, are union memberships required? From reading the forums out seems like pilots talk more on union failures than union success.

I'm not here to argue for or against unions. I just want to know that I'm not related to join if I'm in a right to work state.

I’m not judging said person either way. That aside do you even know what scab means in the context of labor relations? Your post seems to indicate otherwise.

Depends on the airline. It may be a closed shop (you must join the union), agency shop (If you don't join the union, you must pay an agency fee equal to the union dues), or open shop (you can decline union membership without paying any fees).

Understandable. I don't expect an entire companies business model to change for lil ol me. I'm not even sure that required union membership would dissuade me from joining an airline I was very interested in.

Not just a non union pilot. He is also the Transstates Holdings General counsel regarding legal matters such as labor relations and negotiations.

******

I’m actually looking forward to seeing it fail.
