When I was at SkyWest I was very surprised at how much trouble I had in systems. I know hydraulics and mechanical principles but had essentially no glass panel time. I basically knew how to spell MFD and PDF when I got there. They were saying if ED-1 should fail go to the DRP and switch to EICAS mode. So I was drowning in the acronyms and fell behind.

At GoJet second time around was much better made it through systems no sweat. Oral passed. Wasn’t ready for the check ride after last normal sim session and it was Friday night 12/21 so everyone was gone for the holidays. Got back into the sims 12 days later 1/2/19 with a different instructor. After 4 sessions he signed me off for the check ride saying he had seen me do everything right at least once. That was Saturday evening. Sunday afternoon found out I was scheduled for 4 am Monday. Ended up getting 2 hours sleep and made procedural errors. They said I did well on the stalls and steep turns. On the two engine ILS missed approach I got fixated on the airspeed and saw the speeds coming up so I called flaps 8 flaps 0 at 400 ft then I didn’t switch from green needles to white needles on the missed. So that was it. Wish I could have had one more sim then one more shot.

But since I’d had extra sims then blew the check ride they said they didn’t have any options left but that I was encouraged to reapply in 6 months. They messaged me two days after I got home asking me to call the next day when I did they again encouraged me to reapply.

And so it goes

Did they give you any advice on how on how to improve your performance or just say try again?

They wanted me to take a jet transition program but I wasn’t able to find much as most companies that had them in the past converted them to ATP CTP programs. I asked if I could get an MEI instead and they said that would work to demonstrate I had done something to improve my skills

Things changed a lot at GoJet since I left. The chief pilot and director of ops both moved to other opportunities. And we know about losing Delta and the coming CRJ 550 and shuffling of bases so I figure none of that helped my situation

Has to be something out there to help you get over the hump and succeed next time around. We all have had set backs of one kind or another, just need to get another shot completely prepared to get it done. You know what to expect now just need to show them what you did to make the difference. Is there a possibility to replicate the issues in another twin simulator that can be configured to have similar performance. Won’t be exact but can get you proficient with the demonstrations. Rooting for you!

Just apply at another regional and go through training again.

Every time the company makes the DO and Chief fire someone for taking FMLA or military leave, or actually using the medical insurance because they are sick, (self insured company) we will normally see a corresponding moving "to other opportunities". Suddenly they are out of the jurisdiction and unavailable as a witness in the lawsuit that follows. "We did not know what the 2 were up to but when we determined that they might be up to no good their employment was terminated." (And then we brought in 2 guys exactly the same.).

I'm not sure who gets the worst deal around here, the guy who is fired or the guy who does the lying and the firing and then gets the ax himself?

Let me Guess....Ummm... Airbus???

Seriously, don't get discouraged by the hard-liners and other blowhards on these boards.
I failed my initial CFI checkride In 1996 and was told by a regional operator in 2014 that I was not worthy of being in their presence because of it-
despite having passed well over 30 checkrides in the years subsequent to the CFI ride.

Now, that operator has lost most of their codeshare flying.

Someone else mentioned that everything happens for a reason. Keep your chin up and keep working at it.

PM me if you would like further advice on how to move forward.

Cheers,

K

Things were very different in the years 2014 and prior. The problems and failures described by the original poster would’ve been a deal breaker almost anywhere back then. Maybe those “hard - liners and blowhards” you’re referring to are simply stuck in the past. Much has changed over the years in regards to training and testing at the airlines. I agree with your advice to stick to it. Perseverance will eventually pay off.

Thanks everyone for your support

I applied to several regionals over the weekend

So far Mesa said no at 8:30 Monday morning via email

Air Wis offered several dates for an interview

Spoke to an Express Jet recruiter about my prior 121 experiences. He is sending my app forward for a decision hopefully will hear by the end of the week if they want to have a formal interview or no.
