Am I Crazy?

Near 3rd year FO at SkyWest. Upgrade is coming soon. Moving to CHS in May.

I see G7 is doing the DEC with the big signing bonus. Would I be crazy to leave a "good" regional for Gojet?

How bad is GoJet really? I know its reputation as a company but I'd like to hear current accounts from people who are there.

The main reason I'm considering this move is the South Carolina base, big signing bonus which can erase my debt, and the DEC.

My personal opinion is that you would NOT be “crazy”.

Why don’t you PM me?

I have some thoughts on the issue.

What South Carolina base?

I'm not a GoJet guy but they're opening GSO apparently. So... close-ish to South Carolina.

5 hour drive from Charleston. The only regional that has a base in SC is Air Whisky in CAE, and even that is a 2 hour drive from CHS.

My mistake. I meant North Carolina base.

Yep, crazy.

Flying CHS to GSO probably means an ATL or CLT commute. United can't really help you there. Two-legging as an OAL on those routes, yuck.

I live six hours from my base. I'd drive it for long call if I couldn't catch a flight in time. There's no way that I'd drive it for a line.

You wouldn't be talking long call, though... you'd be talking short call and airport reserve for as long as G7 had FOs to upgrade ahead of you. You'd still need a GSO crash pad, because you'd be spending a lot of time there.

I get the debt thing. If the signing bonus isn't vaporware, and clearing your debt is worth losing two to three years of your life, then it might be worth considering.

It's still crazy, though.

It's not free money. You'll be on the bottom of the bid list for 12-18 months working under a terrible contract, a weak union, bad crew scheduling, and combative management. They're buying your quality of life with that money. Can you give up your home life for a couple of years to pay off your debt faster? Some people can, some people beg other pilots to pick up a trip from them so they can have their wedding day off.

when i comes to people begging other pilots to have their wedding off it sounds like their poor inability to bid. Pref bid usually makes getting days off easier, but can we trust this guy with that name and number of post?https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_Q...h=w187-h271-no
