The 550 is only legal because they changed the configuration to 50 seats. If they add one seat, they have to park something else.
It's not just the seats. The modification also lowered the MGTOW to skirt the scope clause. They are very range limited and don't have the legs the other 50 seat aircraft have which makes them unlikely to be what United ultimately decides to keep for a 50 seat feed, if they keep any at all.

You must be new to this industry. Anyone who's been in this business long enough knows that a contract between a mainline and regional can be terminated any time it benefits the mainline. In the last 20 years, it's happened to...

Atlantic Coast
Comair
Atlantic Southeast
Pinnacle
Colgan
Air Wisconsin
Mesa
Expressjet
Trans States
Compass
And others ...

So true. Pilots put too much weight on the length of contracts. Management likes to pat their own backs by advertising long contracts. They likely get them due to easy outs by mainline when needed. See above.

I’m amazed it hasn’t been mentioned yet. During yesterday’s United town hall the 50 seat retirement subject came up once again. In a nutshell still trying to figure out just how many UA will need. They did this time specifically say the single class 50 seaters were the target.

Do you have a link to the townhall recording?

It would be a Q&A from Andrew Nocella on yesterday’s virtual town hall if you have flying together access.

On the SkyWest conference call It said they had been asked to pause deliveries to a “third party” because of financing issues...
