Default Foreign Recruitment?

Hi, just posted this over on the Skywest board as well:

Hey everyone, pardon my intrusion as an outsider. Just read an article from an Australian news site which claims both Skywest and GoJet have been recruiting pilots in Australia, and offering to sponsor E-3 visas to enable those pilots to work. Just curious if this is a real thing and, if so, does it only apply to Australians or are they looking other places. I know several experienced guys over in Europe who, due to the terrible conditions right now, are stuck in non-aviation jobs. Most of these guys are Scandinavian, so not uptight like the Brits can be.

Other thing to pick up from the article is Boeing’s prediction. By 2040, there will be a shortage of 600,000 commercial pilots, worldwide.

Separately, Boeing forecasted in the next 20 years, China will purchase (if memory serves) 8,700 new aircraft. That equates to an average of 435 per year. Of course, those will be back end weighted. Some will be replacements, but many will be new. That is equivalent of half the current fleet numbers, purchased annually, from any of the 3 majors in the US. Of course, that means more pilots needed.

Regionals have been recruiting with E-3 visas for years. It is a specific visa that only applies to Australian citizens.

Yes, nothing new. Probably took a break last year but it's back now.
