Default G7 flying out of ORD…

Hey G7 pilots! Got a question, whats going on with your ORD flying? Was there a reduction in flying for october and november for you all?

Just trying to figure this out, thanks in advance

ORD will shrink overtime. United wants the CRJ-550 mainly east coast.

theres got to be more than that. We have seen quite a few trips in the UA side that dropped in after PBS closed. We have been told G7 couldn’t staff the flying.

That’s true, G7 is driving the staffing strugglebus. Attrition is so high that they can’t hire fast enough to replace their losses, and on top of that there are extensive delays in the training pipeline, where approximately 20% of the seniority list is bottlenecked. So there’s truly less than 400 pilots flying the line, and junior manning is rampant. The company is still trying to bring 2 planes to the line every month, but they don’t have the pilots to staff the flying that United wants to give them. G7 accepted so much extra flying beyond what they could staff that they had to restructure the entire bid month of October, and November bids are running late.

ORD flying has been reduced, EWR is growing and will be the vast majority of our flying. Everyone is getting EWR unless they bid RIC. RIC just fully opened this month, but it’s not expected to even compete with EWR or ORD.

Any ‘reductions’ taken by G7 are a direct result of the staffing issue. Pilots on line are flying their hearts out.

They entered into some kind of agreement to allow that because the union lawyers thought they were giving up nothing. They need to end that.

Then they need to go to the company and propose an industry leading contract. Not just something that has higher pay scales but something where, after all is said and done, the Gojet pilots are paid more than the other airlines.

Next they need to make Hulas understand that with option one, doing what he is doing, that GoJet closes. But, with the industry leading pay, clearly leading, they survive and prosper.

Having known Hulas for 30 years, well, goodby Gojet.

what time frame would you expect something like this to happen?

Some time between now and never. GoJet is poorly managed and has a bad reputation, but they are flying the only 50 seat jet that United wants to keep for a while. Air Wisconsin only has the 200’s, their contract is up for renewal soon, and based on what UAL has said about that fleet combined with rising fuel prices, I wouldn’t consider them to be stable employment. CommutAir is in the same boat with the 145’s. Mesa, Republic, and SkyWest are larger companies that are flying the 175’s, although SkyWest stands to take a significant hit when the 200’s are phased out. Unless someone miraculously comes up with a viable 50 seat replacement that complies with scope, UAX will be shrinking and potentially shuffling the deck with what is left. If you can figure out how all of that will play out, you can start a consulting service and retire early.

Serious question, is the 550 actually profitable? With rising fuel prices that won’t help the margins. Continuously being forced to pay your pilots 300% because you’re so understaffed doesn’t sound like a winning strategy either.

I don’t know if it is or not. The 550 has premium seats for sale and is a much more comfortable 50 seat product than a 145 or 200, but it also has higher fuel burn, severe weight restrictions, and the premium business passengers haven’t come back in large numbers yet. Fuel prices are increasing too. As far as staffing goes, everyone is behind. All of the regionals are struggling and offering premium pay. The legacies are too. I’m scheduled to fly over 85 hours next month and premium pay is common. I’d expect the 550 to be around longer than the other 50 seat aircraft, but who flys them in anyone’s guess.

Bonuses are coming back slowly but surely. $20K who upgrade within the next two month. We’re assuming that’s for DECs too
