Gojet Pilots

I was talking with someone who said they wouldn't go to gojet because their pilots formed an alter ego airline and crossed the picket line. If this guy was this clueless I wonder about the others. The purpose of these forums is to be better educated of your industry. I know word travels fast and gets distorted but please don't call gojet pilots scabs, for that to happen there had to have been a strike and they would have had to cross a picket line.

Superpilot92 07-05-2008 09:46 PM

yeah GOJET pilots are saints

Was he clueless or are you naive?

Technically you are correct - however, remember that TSA furloughed TSA pilots and offered them positions at GoJets instead – a perfect way to circumvent union negotiations. In my opinion to accept such a position is almost as despicable as crossing a picket line…

Uh oh....here we go...

Flamebait thread? Flamebait response?

That's not even remotely true, that furlough was for not getting the CAL flying. TSA guys who jumped did so at their free will as it was their right to do so if they wanted, nobody was on strike. Same as quitting a regional for another one. And De727UPS it's not flame bait, what would you do if your fellow pilots were called scabs for no reason?

de727ups 07-05-2008 11:04 PM

How about a history lesson then? I've never heard it told this way. I think the scab word is thrown around too much and I wouldn't consider Gojet pilots scabs. That said, I can understand the distain for those who went there in the beginning under the circumstances that are normally understood.

If you were there, then tell us how it was....

Pokerpilot 07-06-2008 02:52 AM

AirWillie, thanks for getting this straight. I guess everyone at TSA that just got furlough July 1st can apply to be Frist officers and the 22 downgrades can be street Captain. I'll make sure they get the memo.

Dude, seriously, Dude.................. Time for Pepto before I Sh*t on myself.

Salukipilot4590 07-06-2008 03:41 AM

GoJet has pilots? I thought they only hired career scum-bags?

CTPILOT 07-06-2008 04:00 AM

well I now have something to amuse me while sitting ready reserve from 8am-2pm

This guy you were talking to sounds pretty educated to me... I'd listen to him. You could learn something.

De727ups – there’s absolutely no flamebait involved here. As you can tell I made it very clear that I do not consider them scabs.
However, just go back to your own website where you explain how you " ...became a UPS pilot: Jetcareers.com - Perspectives: ... ..., UPS" and imagine that when you finally got hired at your first 'real' airline hoping for a quick upgrade in that Commander 500, or Convair 640, (or RJ) so you can move on to 'bigger and better things', your company throws you a curve ball that you never imagined was even possible. That’s how Gojet deal happened. I am always polite and courteous to GoJet pilots however I do not agree with their company’s existence.

As far as history lesson, the TSA pilots’ union would not budge and demanded more pay for larger airplanes – the company said they were negotiating with the union however instead they simply created an alter ego airline where they hired a bunch of pilots straight to the left seat just so they wouldn’t have to negotiate with the TSA union anymore. Initially, they could not fill their classes because the GoJet pilots were so despised in the regional airline community so company went ahead and cancelled several TSA classes since “they no longer needed that many pilots” (my friend was in one of those classes) and then they had the audacity to come in and offer the about to be laid off pilots classes at Gojet instead.

That’s as if UPS cancelled several new hire classes and offered those pilots jobs at Yangtze River instead. Different airlines, same principle. Yes, Gojet pilots have since voted in their own union – Teamsters, however that does not change their murky history…

Disclaimer – I never flew for TSA however I was one of the STL based American Connection feeders and have numerous friends at TSA. What was done at TSA should have never happened – there’s no solidarity amongst airline pilots, especially the major airline pilots do not care about the plight of regional airline pilots and therefore scenarios like that will happen again…

Blueskies21 07-06-2008 09:06 AM

Well the way I understood it was TSA management offered 700's to the pilot group at TSA for the 50 seat rate. TSA pilots told management where to stick it and management said .."Ok fine then we'll create GoJets to fly the 700's for that rate..and by the way you're getting furloughed... did you want a job at gojets?" SO the guys that took management up on the offer definately screwed over their brothers at TSA's attempt to get a decent pay rate for the 700's... now I understand that those guys were on furlough..and being on furlough now I understand...however if nobody had been willing to go to gojets then they would have had to put those airplanes on the TSA list and they would have been offered recall. The point is... they severely undercut everybody on that and brought down the profession...so at least in this case give Mesa a break...they got their undercutting the honest way

That's exactly how it happened...

Superpilot92 07-06-2008 09:15 AM

me thinks airwillie is trying to justify himself by seeking employment with Blowjets

ExperimentalAB 07-06-2008 09:29 AM

::yawn:: Get over it dude. No more G7 threads please!

Blueskies21 07-06-2008 09:37 AM

I think the point is...don't get over it...it just encourages more of the same. I don't spend my days hating gojet but I also won't encourage anyone I know to go there if only because I have many friends at TSA. Interesting sidenote, I have a buddy at TSA who just got furloughed and they're offering preferential hiring to those guys at GoJets...hmmmm

Big words from a guy who left XJT only to go to skywest and talk down on his once fellow xjters during the skywest negotiations.

AirWillie didnt you message me about giving you tips since you were in the TSA Feb 4th class? Did you wash out?

Blueskies21 07-06-2008 10:22 AM

The Feburary fourth class was furloughed...maybe that's why he wants to know...

Don is getting pretty quick on the trigger - and with the history of the regionals forum here, and GoJet threads in particular I can understand why.

Here is my modest proposal: Things are really tense all over the airline flying world. I propose, once a week, to start a flame-thread in the hanger-talk section. I will post something provactive:

1) "I love GoJet"
2) "Why I love picking up DPs" (for FedEx)
3) "Why should I instruct if I can fly a jet at 250hrs?"
4) "Why you should quit and go into construction" (to give skyhigh a break).
5) "JO is a genius and Mesa rocks"

Then, all flame can be directed at that one thread in the hanger talk section - the mods would only have to check things there as opposed to having to cover the vast area of the whole website (perhaps even be able to furlough a few mods). Also, we could keep the flames and crap in one area and you would only need to see it if you went there of your own volition. It would also give people a place to blow off steam.

Just a thought.

boilerpilot 07-06-2008 01:04 PM

I Love GoJet is the best thread title EVER

Don't go over just because you want a job. I'm serious. Don't be hated by your peers and especially completely divorce yourself from the TSA pilot group forever by going over.

A10crewdawg 07-06-2008 01:27 PM

Rumor is we're in talks to possibly merge with G7.....awesome. I'm going to go be a rodeo clown. any takers?

I hear they make good money....

flyinaway411 07-06-2008 02:01 PM

can we call AirWillie back to the table...

I read on another of his posts in the "TSA Furloughing" thread he was asking about seniority while being furloughed. I can only assume those two things coupled with this means he is going to go to GoJets. AirWillie, please have some self respect. I know guys say its gotten old and its ok to go there now and they have a union and blah blah blah. But think about this...

You are helping the same management that just furloughed you to keep other people out of a job, and others downgraded. Don't help the cause, man. I have sacrificed picking up any open time from this company (don't get started on the topic that we can't organize doing this, its my own choice) because they short staff themselves by downgrading and furloughing, but don't care about putting people on the street. I hope you will not be shortsighted and selfish.

Friends still don't let friends work at GJ.

Salukipilot4590 07-06-2008 04:12 PM

Just found out one of my friends is going over there...

Phone number deleted from my phone...
