^^^^^ This, times 10. Besides, what passenger wants a hipster flying their jet? Next, it'll be guys wanting to wear a top bun. Where did we go wrong?
Probably setting such ridged standards decades ago and still reminiscing about them today. “Remember the L1011?” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Man that's reaching pretty deep. It's just cultural inertia in the industry, it's not like there's one guy at A4A or FAA HQ who is the facial hair regulator and won't allow it because somebody with a beard beat him up when he was a kid
I don't care either way, but I tend to roll Don Johnson on my days off so if we're going to allow beards, we need to allow three-day as well. In all seriousness shaving irritates my face if done daily, and a full beard is way too itchy. If you want full beards, don't be a hypocrite about the middle ground. Don't need to call me a hypocrite either. I never said anything against you and your grooming choices. |

My comment was that this thread brings out a-holes who don't like people who look different.

Nautical tradition means beards.

PK gets the argument. He opposes traditional air carrier grooming policy with respect to beards. That's ok. Labeling those in favor a-holes isn't. The employer sets a standard. Employees fall in step. Uniforms, conduct, proficiency, SOPs. We look alike because we train to perform alike. I may fly a dozen legs this month with 12 different crewmembers just met the 1st time. Likely best integrated if idiosyncratic expression remains off property. Yeah I look pretty conservative in a neatly trimmed goat. But freaky Freddy here got no business reporting for duty like that. Who makes the call? |

Even Captain Obvious has a beard.

Your attempt to cast me as a villian who labels everyone who disagrees with me as an a-hole is false. In fact, it proves my point about those who come out of the woodwork against beards on these type of threads. Some sort of personality failure where they think everyone should be forced to look like them and if someone doesn't agree they must be an a-hole. If you can only fly with people who look like you, I think we might have found a problem. |
