Default Looking for Aviation Roommate in Houston area

Hello all,

I hope everyone is doing well. As the title states I just bought a 4 bedroom house in Houston and am looking to fill a room.

I'm a flight coordinator for a private company based in Florida which allows me to work remotely from my home so should you choose to take me up on my offer then know that I'll most likely be home more than the usual roommate. But don't worry, I'm very respectful of other peoples privacy and am a quiet individual overall. I've been in aviation for the past 14 yrs so we'd be able to relate to each other when it pertains to all of the woes that come with the business.

The home is closer to the Spring/Tomball area than it is to the center of Houston. It's about 10min from David Wayne Hooks (KDWH), 20min from George Bush Intercontinental (KIAH), and 45min from Houston Int'l (KHOU). Heck, if need be, I could occasionally give you a lift to these airports when you have a flight in order to help you save on being charged to park your car there. Just a thought.

The room is 14x11 / walk-in closet / large living room & kitchen / access to all utilities (washer, dryer, etc) / two car garage / fenced in backyard. Rent would be a flat fee of $700 which includes water, power, cable, etc). The room will not be available until Aug 1st. I do have a dog though in case animal allergies or fear of them are an issue.

So if you or someone you know is based in that area looking to save a little extra money and live in a really nice house in a gorgeous & quiet neighborhood then by all means PM me. I'm not able to post pics on this forum yet but I'll be more than happy to send some over to you.

Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from you guys soon.

- Adam

Ummm, if you just moved to Houston, I'll cut you some slack...

but your travel times to airports are questionable.

DWH is almost certainly doable in 10 or so minutes.
IAH in 20? On a good day, sure. On an average day at rush hour... maybe depending on your specific location.

But HOU in 45 minutes AIN"T gonna happen. I live in Montrose (very close to the 288 and 59 split) and my planned rush hour commute to DWH was an hour. To make the trip between DWH and HOU by ground, round trip at rush hour is about three hours. I've done it a number of times when fogged out of DWH and HOU was the alternate.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but there is no point in getting a tenant who expects to get to HOU in 45 minutes; only bad will can come of it.

DWH is the best bet. A former employer is there that might have need of a room either for a full time pilot or rather than a regular hotel room for subs. PM me for the name. Otherwise, take some time to walk the hangers passing out notices of you property. Maybe you will get a hit. Maybe you will get lucky and entice a little chicky behind the counter

I DO wish you luck. Heck, I am out of flying now, and if I were not so in love with city life, I might look more at your offer.

Cheers.
John

P.S. If you every get into the city and are looking for a watering hole or good meal, feel free to ask.

FlyJSH,

I appreciate the input. I haven't moved out there yet so I have to rely on what Google Maps and the locals tell me. I've only been to that city twice, once to scope the area and the second time to house hunt.

The two times that I had to fly in-out of Hobby it only took us about 45min per leg so it seemed like a feasible time frame to suggest. Granted it wasn't in morning or afternoon rush hour, and I get it, when going into any city you have to factor in the daily commuters, but 45 min to an hour felt like the norm.

DWH is showing 13min via Stuebner. IAH is 30min (okay, so my future neighbor was off on his time), and HOU is showing 48min. I hear quite a bit about the horrors of TX traffic but I'm coming from south Florida and both visits to Harris County didn't bother me not one bit. It was a breath of fresh air to not sit at every stop light for 5 min and to actually have other cars let you in when you're trying to merge. Pure bliss from what I'm used to.

I currently live with a pilot who has a 12 on/10 off schedule so the idea is to shoot for the same kind of crew member that might be paying more than they'd like for an apartment that they only stay at for maybe half of the month.

If I don't have a suitor by the time I move out there next month then I'll try your suggestion and roam the local hangars and see what I can dig up.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Again, I was not calling you out or trying to undermine your efforts. But someone flying out of HOU would not want to be located where you are. DWH or IAH are the best bet. Depending on the schedule West Houston might work.

Good luck
