Default Microsoft Flight Sim X

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knew how to set up the avionics in the flight sim so I can fly a profile. I want to get ready for the Sim ride at ASA and figure out how to set it up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I'm not a computer guru so if you can use easy instructions I would be greatful.

How do you want to set them up specifically?

I was trying to set up a departure from ATL with an ILS into Columbus.

What do you specifically need to set up? VORs, fuel/payload, FMS, bugs etc? You can click on everything in the cockpit (of which I'm sure you are aware) so I guess I'm a little confused.

I'm trying to set up the VOR's and the FMS. I would like to be able to fly approaches with the flight director and then fly the same approach with the "grey needles"

I don't think you can use the FMS, can you? I think you just make a flight plan with the flight planner...

They won't expect you to be able to use the flight director on your sim ride, so why worry about it?

Also I was wondering if I set up a longer trip from ATL to STL, is there a way to change the freqs as I go. I know you can click on all the radios but it seems I must be doing something wrong. So in a long winded way, how do you set up the profile of your flight, change freqs, bug speeds and altituds, and then do it all over again without the FMS.

Thank you for your help.

I know I don't have to use the FMS, but I am still having a heck of time getting the avionics set up for the hold portion and then the ILS portion. The way I have to do it know is by hitting pause, fumbling around and then trying to resume.

Sounds like you're too far into the details here...

I have used MS flight sim for procedure and scan practice since IFR training. It has helped with checkrides, proficiency, and interview sim rides.

But you want to stick to the very basics...six pack and two VOR's (or an HSI and a VOR). Select an airplane with a similar display layout to the sim you expect to use. Give yourself ATC instructions and respond in full.

If you can fly procedures and tune the radios/VOR's in flight sim, you can probably do fine in a real simulator...it takes more of your attention to tune things on the PC than in the real sim, where you just reach down and turn the knob.
