Lawyer up hard. Spend some money on it. A few thousand dollars.
Was the person over 21? That makes a big difference.
It might not "go away", but the charge can be lessened to something like "Reckless driving with alcohol" or something.

FWIW, to those "career is over" types (even though I know this isn't the OPs concern", a good buddy was just hired at SWA with a DUI. Resume was pretty straightforward, nothing extravagant. Yes, better to not get one, but your career isn't over.

I told my kids that if they got themselves arrested for doing something stupid to not waste their phone call on me.

If you can get yourself into it, you can get yourself out of it.

DUI is a 5 year hurdle for the regionals hiring a person and seem to be about 10 for hiring at the majors.

I have zero use for drunk drivers. Let them hang. Lesson time.

How about requesting FMLA? Maybe they were suggesting take some time off to sort out the problems at home. This person can still be an airline pilot, they just need to handle the situation at home.

I know 2 hired a separate legacies. BOTH inside the 10 year window.

And as PotatoChip mentioned, neither had stellar/over the top resumes.
