Interesting find, thanks! I'm actually reading a book about him right now, it was interesting to hear his voice and see his mannerisms on tv. Would have loved to fly Corsairs with him.

Guessed correctly only because he seemed a little rougher than the other two & said from Idaho. Then I took a few minutes to read the history some. Pretty rough. 1955, how far away is that? Thanks for posting.

It’s a shame a hero had to do that stupid show and people not immediately recognizing who he is.

Different era, no TV during the war, no internet, no u-tube.

I recognized him immediately, but that was from images I had seen on the web (or maybe tv when I was a kid).

They all knew who he was, which would not be the case today.

Story I heard from my USN (VF-211,124, NTPS) was that Boyington was invited to speak at Pax River, if I remember correctly, for a graduation or some event. By the second night, officers were being assigned two-hour drinking “watches” and he was still out-drinking ‘em. Old school, for sure.

Yes. Wouldn't it be a hoot to tap on the Philco glass.."Hey Pappy, China's still red but we shot a roadster at Jupiter this week and I'm e-posting this to a bunch of guys busting a nut to reach 300K doing the FAGO dance on domestic narrow bodies."
