Toyotas easily go 200,000 miles if you keep up with the oil changes. Older Corollas in the 2003 vintage can be had for a couple thousand. After ours kicks the bucket I'll be getting another used one right away for my commute.

I've got a 50 mile commute (one way) so 100 miles each trip and I have driven a 2013 Kia Optima almost to death. It's been great, no maintenance except standard tire rotations and oil changes over the last 5 years.

Yeah older japanese cars work for that. Use mobile-1 oil.

If you leave it parked for extended periods, get a battery disconnect (easy to install on the battery terminal). Or a solar charger which sits on the dash or rear deck and plugs into a cig lighter socket. But you need to use a cig lighter socket which is hot when the key is off, otherwise it won't charge of course.

Another option is a timer which starts the car every week, lets it run for 30 minutes, then turns it off again. That will keep the battery charged and motor parts lubed. I had to do this when my car would sometimes go 1-2 months without being driven at a cold-weather base.
