Air Force Punishes 70 Airmen For Accidental Nuke-Armed B-52 Flight | Fox News
OK, I know what happened, but HOW do you ACCIDENTALLY load six war shots, warshot NUKES mind you, on a weapons trailer without noticing they are...well, NUKES? It's stenciled on the warhead! And then how do the bomb dump guards let the trailer out the gate with neither the appropriate paperwork or security? And how do you upload the weapons on a B-52 without noticing that you are uploading...well, NUKES? And then wander off and leave then unsecured until the crew shows up? And how does the crew somehow fail to notice during their preflight that they have six NUCLEAR WARHEADS attached to the missiles ON THEIR WING IN PLAIN SIGHT and then fly the plane all the way down to Barksdale from Minot? And not discover the mistake even then?
Some poor AGS pogue comes to retrieve what are supposed to be missile engines coming for depot maintenance with dummy warheads on them for aerodynamic streamlining and gets the shock of his life. Congratulations SSGT, you are all alone in a no-lone zone.
Curtis LeMay must still be rolling over in his grave.
I guess by comparison, swearing in a sock puppet is actually not all that bad, but damn the USAF has sure gone downhill.

This whole mess shows a lack of leadership at all levels.
Everyone's ideas are to be cherished. No one can be told no. That is the environment we have to operate in.
In my opinion, the TAG was too heavy-handed as well, which in and of itself, is another lack of leadership.
Was the punishment that severe because the event happened? Or was it that severe because it happened, was filmed, and the internet got mad?
Rather than tell the DANG, and the Governor 'I'll handle this' and ensure the punishment met the offense, he just chopped heads. It would have taken a bolder man to do something less than total annihilation of the troops' respective careers.
(but then he may have had to explain himself, his reasoning, and why he made the call. Not many would have the gumption to put their necks on the line for something like this ... much safer to nuke it from orbit)
Probably scared some of that stink would get on him ... what's a couple of lives/careers on balance? As long as you sail through it, right? No big deal.
A steadier hand was needed here.
I think the DANG and the Governor would have been just as happy with a thoughtful response from the TAG that appropriately disciplined the members involved while still making clear to the masses that the behavior was not acceptable.
And the punishments? They reek of admin actions, not actual discipline.
My guess? This PA troop wasn't even a career AGR, I bet she was on a temp tour of some sort. When the news is reporting that she'd been 'fired', what probably happened in real life was that her temporary tour was cut short and she reverted to traditional guardsman status.
A temp AGR (or a temp tech) having some orders dry up and a career AGR having their orders curtailed (or technician being removed for cause) are two different animals.
The colonel that was 'demoted?' Mmm. I don't buy it.
I bet he just didn't have time in grade to retire as an O-6. My sense is that he wasn't demoted — as in, officially found wanting in some way and reduced in grade.
More than likely ... the TAG asked him to submit paperwork to leave and not wanting to rock the boat, he did.

The Colonel should have been fired/retired. I get hijinks on the part of junior folks, but that O6 was making light of the very foundation of order, discipline, and the conditions and nature of our service.
