Back in 5 . . .

Just some light-hearted ribbing here: ;)

One of my pet peeves: How do you know when the 5 minutes will be up? Was the sign left just before you arrived to see it (and so it really will be five minutes) or was it left almost 5 minutes ago (so it will be just a matter of seconds)?

Then there's the other question: What kind of minutes? Logbook minutes? Mechanic minutes? Scheduler minutes? Teenager minutes? Toddler minutes?

OK, now to max out the smilies to make sure everyone understands I'm teasing, not complaining:

:) :D

(I'd put more, but there's a limit, yanno.)

Tony, you have entirely too much time on your hands. I'm starting to worry about you! ;)

I'd like to know what "fixing a few write ups" mean.

Tony, time to have a margarita. :D

Aww, cummon. Don't tell me you've never gone to a store and found it closed with that little sign on the window? :) It's most annoying when you have to get something there, like the dry-cleaning you're supposed to pick up because there's something you need to wear (or worse, the wife needs to wear) tonight. Should I wait for 5 minutes, or should I run across town and do the other stuff I have to do and risk not getting back here before closing time?

Write-ups -- I believe that's a reference to the aviation business we're in. It might depend on the particular background (civilian/military, Air Force/Navy/Army, etc.), but I immediately recognized it as meaning he's fixin' somethin' that's broke. :D

Another such term is "squawks."

I know squawks. I had to do one on my favorite C-172 once. You know the one just like me - two loose screws and held together with duct tape. ;)

In my world, "write up" means someone has done something wrong like swear at a customer, called the supervisor a Nazi, destroyed company property, misused company property, late for work for the 15th time in one week, etc and the supervisor (the Nazi) writes up these incidents and puts them in the personnel file. After 3 such write ups (is this a word?) the poor fella is sent to the unemployment office.

So if you are correct (and I know you are), what went broke that needed fixin'? :) I know, I know, better listen to Albie and get back to my needlepoint and Sudoku.

Forum Administrator minutes which resemble all of the above!

I was backing up the database using a new technique that I don't think I'll try again, it took way too long (25 minutes). I used to be able to do a "hot" back-up without shutting down the boards, although you guys talk so much that the database is getting pretty large. It now requires that I shut the boards down so that the tables aren't changed during back-up.

I know I know, great timing :) If it happens again I'll give you double your money back!

Sounds like a good excuse to schedule a 30-minute downtime every Sunday night, err, Monday morning around 3AM. You're up then anyway, right?

:D

And here I thought you were working on upping the Emoticon limit to 5 per post. :p

Sadly I usually am up then, and that's typically when the script runs. Today I got a hold of a new software tool and couldn't wait to try it out. Ah, the things that pass for excitement these days.

Other than the fact that it took longer than expected, what'd ya think?
