Anyone live in an RV at your domicile?
 

Not sure if this is the best place to post this but here goes. I am exploring options before applying to some regionals with anticipating of what to do during the reserve time. I am a west coast person that is looking at both Compass and Horizon so SEA, LAX, PDX would be the three main cities I would have to plan around. As a future commuter, I was thinking of towing the RV and using that instead of the traditional crash pad during the unknown length of time I will be on reserve.



Any feedback to that idea would be appreciated.:D

I know some people who do it (non-airline) and thought about it myself. However, after looking at the rates for RV sites I found many are $400-550 a month! I just can't see myself giving up that kind of cash just to park something. Am sure you can get cheaper sites, but just giving money away no matter what.

LGB used to have a sea of campers, as did LAX.

They closed the LAX lot. I doubt many government entities want the liability of running a free campground these days.

In major metro areas, any actual campgrounds will be expensive, they mostly cater vacationers, not residents although you might find longer-term rates intended for retirees. Even storage lots can be $400+, and you can't live there.

This would work better in a less metro area, with cheaper campgrounds or possibly places you could just park.

depending on the size of your RV you could do the walmart hopping thing and if u get a call park it in the employee lot while you're on a trip. Again only if its a relatively small rig.

A new hire classmate of mine at USAirways used to park his VW Camper at the PHL employee lot. Got away with it most of the time but did get hassled once in awhile. This was 10+ years ago so not sure you could get away with it today.

The PDX lot regularly has at least a half dozen sprinter/pro master vans in the lot. I wouldn’t be surprised if pilots are spending a few nights there. I imagine it would be prettt horrible in the heat of the summer though.

In the long run it would be much cheaper to get a crashpad, rent a private room or pay for a hotel.
