airlines and eco friendly sustainability
Ive been hearing a lot about how airlines are trying to switch to a more eco-friendly way of doing things. Everything from recycling plastics used on board for eating/drinking to using recycled materials for the carpet. My question is, does anyone else have any other ideas on how airlines or aircraft manufacturers could become more eco-friendly?

It’s very difficult to structurally change anything as safety can’t take a backbench on eco sustainability.
So seats, carpeting and other interior trim pieces need to meet the fire resistant requirements and everything else that comes with it.
For hygienic reasons very little can be reused due to cost.
With Asian carriers you still get a glass and metal cutlery and real plates.
Doing that in a western country would make that cost prohibitive.
Anyway, stuff you can consider is efficient engines, efficient flying techniques. Preventing hydraulic fluid from getting into ground water.
Airport ramp water runoff collected etc

Even with Nextgen implementation, the sheer volume of increasing traffic and “hub & spoke” model will result in more “log jams” in the sky. Look for “time based flow” soon. Also, the public will outcry due to changing flight paths (A-RNP departures). There will always be noise complaints, no matter how quiet the turbofans get.

I'm a lot more interested in a flame-resistant interior than I am making it "Eco friendly."
Unless you want to wrap the passengers up in ferns and carry them beneath giant seagulls, you're going to have to deal with just a bit of man-made eco-unfriendliness.
You'll be happy to know that considerable water vapor is returned to the atmosphere with each gallon or liter of jet fuel burned, though, and that we do pressurize with good old fashioned reusable...air.
