Living in domicile vs commuting
Anyone deliberately put themselves in a situation where they went from living in domicile to commuting just so they could live somewhere else.
My family have been in the Salt Lake City area for nearly two decades living in a house on less than a quarter acre. I'd like to move to the "country" with 10 or more acres. That pretty much means a couple hundred miles minimum away from the airport. Perhaps commuting out of ID or MT.
Absolutely crazy/stupid idea or was it worth it for those that have done it.

1. Ability to bid senior
2. No aspirations for a different airline
3. Current airline is solid, ie., not going to go away or radically change flying.
4. Intended move has reasonable flights to your assigned base.
But yeah, I know a number of SEA based Alaska pilots that live in Idaho, and one in Montana, that commute by choice and seem quite happy with the arrangement. Of course, Seattle traffic is getting pretty grim and the Seattle City Council are a bunch of nincompoops, so that may be part of it.

We moved from out home city, half way across the country to a domicile where we had no friends or family. It was great to finish a trip and head home but it didn't feel like "home". This lasted 2 years and we moved back and I choose to commute to where we wanted to live.
