I used to work for a flightschool where the wife of the owner and office manager insisted we separate recyclable trash in trash cans designated paper/plastic/trash.
Lady....really?! I just burned through 100 gallons of irreplaceable fossil fuel just today alone.

The fact that you burned some gas doesn’t negate the positive of recycling.

The garbage company, in turn, most likely mob-controlled or run, sells the trash, and what my wife was doing was free labor to help them separate the trash that was a revenue stream for the mob. But it made her feel warm and fuzzy and environmentally friendly.
Then she found out that the Chinese, who were buying much of the trash, were rejecting the trash (for several reasons, not the least of which is the illustrious cheeto-in-chief), and the mob-garbage companies were dumping it in the ocean. As it turned out, her meticulous conservation effort was actually increasing waste and pollution.
Most never look past their trash can, however, to find out what's really happening, and are content to satiate themselves with the feel-good illusion of environmental bliss.

Well actually petroleum hasn't proven to be a finite resource. Peak oil is a myth.

This isn't worth any effort worrying about. Air transportation is here to stay no matter what a few on the far left do. Unlike the people in this article who won't do anything beyond a Twitter campaign, Greenpeace has actually been committing crimes to further their agenda yet even they have had zero effect on our lives.
And as far as recycling goes. We use to sell raw sorted recycled materials to China, but they have decided to stop accepting the worlds trash. Most of the stuff you spend a long time sorting into the correct recycling bins ends up in landfills now.
