Starting a business

Does anyone have any knowledge of starting your own business? How to get a loan, corporation info, etc?

mike734 05-03-2007 07:30 AM

There is nothing to it really. Just rent a space and sell stuff. What's to know?

Come on now. Why the F are you asking that question here? What answer could you possibly be looking for? Have you ever seen those big stores with, (what do you call them?)...Books! Maybe you could read one and then another one. Then when you think you've got a handle on it, read some more.
There, now you've got your advice. Go forth and prosper.

A pilot who has successfully started his own business. How he or she achieved financing.

Thanks for the great advice. You were so helpful. Good luck with negotiations, that attitude will help you.

OK, so what are you expecting? Do you think this pilot is going to spend half an hour writing to you on this forum such a complicated answer? The answer you seek would fill a book. That's why I advised you to read some books.

Look, I'm not trying to be an ass. (It comes naturally) I'm just saying your question is far too wide to be answered here. You asked, "How to get a loan?" Ah...apply for one. Corporation info? What the hell are you asking there? There are C corps, S corps, sole proprietorship's, and others. Would you like a full dissertation on the advantages and disadvantages of each one as well as the tax consequences of each?

Yes, is the answer. Yes, someone does have knowledge of starting their own business. They are called lawyers. Talk to one.

Guys, try to control yourselves!

Try this thread where I wrote about the fundamentals of Sole Proprietorships, Corporations, Limited Liability Corporations and Partnerships.

I would be happy to answer more specific questions. Mike is correct - the original question is too open-ended. And if I didn't charge ToiletDuck and countless others, well, I guess I won't charge you either. ;)

Thanks. That is useful information.

If you're not going to provide anything positive to this guy's question, why bother posting anything at all? I don't get it.

You even went completely against your own signature. Well done.

I`d like to offer up the only piece of advice my father ever gave me..."Never go into a retail business"

crjav8er 05-03-2007 06:15 PM

I have a great idea (not retail), just looking for some good specific sources of information. Like a specific title of a book, or the name of a good lawyer...:)

My initial post was quite vague, I was more interested in someone who has actually started (or completed) the process.

Own your own corporation by garrett sutton. also www.corporate.com is useful, they can give you advice on where to incorporate and things like that. I started my own business recently and that was helpful.
