Not a very politically correct statement given who I work for, but when Boeing purchased MD, it sort of became MD, and MD had long been a troubled company for quite some time.

The last couple of Mad Dogs to be developed were death traps and improved progressively along the way, after loss of life mind you, and ended up being great aircraft in the long run. Boeing was the company who just "got" it right, would rather over build and over engineer than fall short.

A lot of the old culture does still exist at Boeing, it's not dead yet. Let us hope they are turning a corner and headed in the right direction now. Finding their roots.
