Default G700 Reaches FL540 and Mach .99

G700 Test Aircraft reached FL540 and Mach .99. I don't know what it'll get certified for but still that's impressive.

Wow, that is impressive indeed!

Too bad the article didn't talk about the fuel burn

The article says .92, but doesn’t mention the altitude, for certification.

.92 is more believable. .99 starts to build a shock wave.

Here’s the correct link, M.99 is normal for flight cert at M.925 Mmo. The highest the FAA will approve is F510, but F540 is impressive.

Pay? 300K+. QOL? Depends.

FlL 540 and Mach .99 would be very impressive on a production completely outfitted aircraft. This was a green aircraft out for short less than 2 hour flight with minimal fuel. It was done for testing only and does not in ant way represent a production aircraft.

On delivery of our G550, the test pilot wanted to show us flight at FL510- it’s max certified altitude. We were at the very end of an 8 hour proving run with only 90 minutes of fuel. I told him there was no need, only to watch him get to FL 50.4 and see the airspeed decaying. As the plane slowed below .75 and low speed buffet approached, I had seen enough and told him it was time to start down. The only damage was his ego.
