Quick trip-New York

Looking to make a quick trip to New York City from TPA.

I want to do the most possible, get the full experience. What do you enjoy about NYC (ha)? Food? (Im not a wine and dine kinda guy, so if you have the best pizza place or something that works.) And if you have anything in general to add, speak up!

Lombardi's Pizza claims to be the first Pizza in the US. (1905) They cook it in a coal-fired oven. I would most certianly go there again. They are at 32 Spring Street.

Everytime I go to New York, I always visit the American Museum of Natural History. They have got Mythic Creatures on now.

After a day with the dinosaurs, I schlepp over to Chinatown, look for the smallest hole in the wall full of people who speak only Chinese, sit down and order my favorite dishes.

McSorleys Pub,...the oldest continously operating pub in the big apple. 7th and 2nd if I'm not mistaken.

But I wouldn't want to live there...

And they also have a superb planetarium there. On the other side of Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has loads of amazing exhibits. Enroute to the park, grab a pastrami sandwich from a deli and watch the joggers & skaters pass your park bench, or join them! On the Hudson River, the aircraft carrier "Intrepid" is well worth a visit. In Times Square, the "TKTS" booth sells same-day tickets to many Broadway shows at 50% off.

Never been there myself but I've heard good things about Peter Luger steakhouse in Brooklyn

Just spent 2 1/2 months in NYC. I actually leave tomorrow morning to head back to Chicago.

The best way to get a crash course of the city is to do a double decker bus tour. There are 4 or 5 different tours but you can get a pass for all of them at a cheaper rate than individually. The nice thing is that if you want to get off and see a particular area, you can, and just hop on a later bus. They are all over and run about every 10 to 15 mins.
If you decide to go to the top of any building, forget the Empire State and go to the top of Rockefeller Center. You get the view of the Empire State Building and lower Manhatten, then on the other side you get Central Park.

Forget the pizza. It sucks here. The only real pizza is in Chicago!! But McSoreleys is definitely worth a visit.

Have fun,
Exx

The Intrepid is not currently in port. It was relocated for out of state for renovations...I think it will be gone for a few years. McSorley's is cool. Not very big. NY Pizza rules. La Mela in Little Italy, awesome family style italian restaurant!

I stayed up there for about a week and a half for a job a year ago. We stayed at the Hotel QT. Cool place, a couple blocks from Times Square. I was working overnight for the most part and walked around a bit during the day. Went to a lot of the neat sites with a short walk so I guess it was pretty central.

Wow - fighting words....

Definitely check out McSorleys. We used to have a saying - "Get McSickley at McSorleys"... You buy the beer by the handful. The barmaids pour it into one size mug four or five at a time. Don't worry about the dirt; it's the only thing holding the building together.

As far as the statement about pizza....I have been all over the country and NY is still the best. Chicago is too doughy. It is different everywhere. I guess it all depends on where you grew up. Go have a blast in NYC!

pizza was not meant to be folded, nor should you be able to fold it
