I'm sure it's a trick question but I'll light the candle first, which I can use to light the fire and lamp.

Let me ask you this. How are you gonna light any of those other objects without lighting the match first. This is an old riddle. The match is the answer.

I understand the riddle, but I don't like the wording because it literally forces you away from choosing the match. A better structure would be:

You’re in a cabin and it’s pitch black. Around you there is a newspaper, a lamp, a candle, and wood in a fireplace. You have one match on you. Which do you light first?

This one supports jumping past the match to find the answer. Slow down and it becomes obvious. A simple, but good riddle.
