Hey guys,

I am planning on making the jump into the regionals. But with a 24,000 a year salary before taxes, I will be taking a 60% paycut. Since there are alot of days off, what are the opportunities to make some cash from home.

Any ideas? Anything is welcome! I see alot of that scam stuff. Only legit ideas please!

could you really do part-time while you're on reserve?

and this is a stupid question, i know, but i don't know.. lol... do most regionals not offer bennies? cause i mean hell, i was a ramper for USair and we even got bennies.

Im talking about stuff on the weekends and days off that you could do to earn some extra cash, while at home.

i would just say like real estate or day trading.. thats the kinda stuff i wanna get into "on the side"

Most of my buddies who have gone regionals don't have that many days off. I talked to one guy who was getting the minimum (10 days) this month. You may not have as much free-time for a while. I guess it depends on where you go and how quick you get a line.

1) Gigolo
2) Get an insurance license - life health. Sell life and disability insurance to people you know, do right by them (don't screw em) and they will refer you people. Everyone needs extra life or disability insurance.
3) Many places (like Jet Blue) use reservation people that actually work from their homes. You have to install a dedicated phone line for that number, and have a certain amount of computer equipment, but I think it actually pays pretty well and has flexible hours. Many other reputable companies have arrangements like this.
4) Arrange a deal to do work at the apartment complex you live for a reduction in rent. Either work part time as a leasing agent, or if you are handy you can be a part time maintenance guy. The reduction or elimination of rent could be a great deal.
5) Sell cars (may not be able to convince a dealership to let you do this full-time.
6) Produce and direct porn videos.
7) If you have a good credit rating, buy houses in a somewhat marginal part of town (all you can afford on a regional salary), make cosmetic improvements and sell them...or retain them as rental property.
8) Teach groundschool at the local CC or flight school
9) find a janitorial service that cleans office buildings at night. See if they can employ you on evenings when you are home.
10) Find some people at a local airport that have nice airplanes that you can wash and detaiil on a weekly basis. Get three or four clients. Another possible benefit is that because you are a "pro" they will probably let you use the plane once you have developed a relationship with them.
11) Sell bodily fluids at the local blood and sperm banks.
12) See if a local A&P needs a part time "boy" around the shop to clean, etc. Possible benefit to this is that the mechanical knowledge of airplanes that you now posses will increase exponentially, giving you a better understanding of the mechanics of flight, potentially making you a better pilot. An additionally benefit to this is that you could actually start working on an A&P rating, making you more desirable in the corporate market, or allowing you to work as a free lance mechanic no matter how high you go with a major. I know many TWA pilots that were also A&P's or IA's and they made great side money doing inspections and maintenance on the side.

Just a few ideas.

Star in a porn video yourself. I understand quite a number of APC members are quite talented in that area. ;) I hope you like cold showers.

I probably shouldn't have put those in there because it detracts from the point. I say for five minutes and came up with that list. Some are more workable than others, but it shouldn't be hard to find something to do.

Also, not to be a biatch or anything...but things now are tough, but do not assume they weren't always tough. When my grandpa got on with TWA he had three kids, had just finished a tour in Korea, and they moved him from Ill to KC. This was in 1953. He sat reserve flying the engine carrier DC-3 at first and on his day off he would work framing houses as a carpenter. When he was on reserve, he built houses in the neighborhood, and Grandma would take the call, then drive immediately to tell him.

Even in the good old days things were tough on a new guy - todays generation isn't special in that regard. Review the list or come up with your own ideas and do what you need to do.
