Where Is a "Safe Space" on APC?
A TOS for Hangar Talk says "No discussion of politics or religion." Of all the topic areas on APC, this one seemed like the most logical to begin a talk on something that is or will become political. Let's face it, political stuff is imbedded in many places throughout APC, and the mods often let it run. This is a legit question; where can I go to talk about NOTAMS and changes at the top of the FAA, etc? These sound like purely aviation-centric topics, but since certain parties are injecting radical political ideology into our cockp, I mean flight decks, shouldn't there be a "safe place" where taking the men out of airmen can be talked about? I'm on a mission to find out ... air mission that is!

As a heavily regulated industry, we need to be able to talk about .gov. That includes elected officials and their policies.
We don't allow partisan jabs or infighting. So no brandon, cheeto-man, etc Also don't debate partisan policies unless they directly affect aviation... .gov has it's fingers in enough pies which DO affect aviation as it is, no need to look for trouble elsewhere. There's a slight grey area... if somebody can guess your political affiliation by your position on certain topics, that might be OK. If you flat-out tell them, that's a bridge too far. So avoid the red/blue recriminations, it only leads to one outcome. If all parties to the debate remain totally civil, it gets more leeway. If you really want to discuss politics, I'd recommend doing that at a bar... not here, or at family dinner, or on the flight deck. Religion is 100% no-go as a discussion topic here (including abortion). We do not have exceptions for certain forums, the TOS applies equally to all. The various forums exist just to organize threads and information. |

This is an open mic for the semi-anonymous. A media business for stakeholders. Censored for content yet revealing in ways intended & unwitting. When trolls, bots, the berserk bombard threads to blather, mods do their best. NOTAMS, serious topic. Departed a lit, CLSD RWY repositioning from a charter more than 20 years ago, cleared construction equipment parked out in the far end darkness just because it wasn't my/our time.

Wow. Must be really hard for you not to have a place to vent about words like flight deck and mission. If things like that get under your skin so much, you might be in the market for some high blood pressure medicine.

Not really. I wouldn't say words that you mentioned in any way impact my blood pressure either. I'm interested on freedom of speech and probing current events in a censorship-free venue.
Censorship implies an agenda to shape the perception of the truth to a particular viewpoint, we don't have any reason to do that here. We just want to avoid "no win" topics which only result in hate and discontent, along with basic civility. |

Has it been discussed having just some sort of love, like, disagree, agree buttons? Just a thought, for what it's worth. |
Like buttons:eek:
