Being proactive?

Didn't someone post a picture of a current 121 line pilot?

As much as I liked the SR-71 / U2 pictures perhaps its better to remove the temptation...

What do you mean? Is it bad form to post pics of those a/c?

No its not...My comment about removing temptation was directed towards posting a picture of a 121 pilot.

I PMed HSLD and asked about it a few days ago. I got a PM back saying that there are some problems with the database. He didn't mention when it would be back up though.

Sorry for not putting an announcement out for this, I took it down about the time I called for a Nartia trip and didn't have time to finish working the problem.

The photos forum allows uploading forums to the site's hard drive (where it's indexed by the database and displayed from our server) OR you can hotlink to a photo on another server somewhere else on the web.

Both techniques result in the same property: a photo appears in the post.

We're having trouble with the attach file technique and how the database indexes those attachments. To prevent further problems with the database talbe structure, I turned the photo forum off while I left for my trip.

I'll dive back in tonight and try to find a work around. One of the problems is that we see hotlinking images from our server to other websites (i.e. using our forum and bandwidth as an image server). Of course there are techniques to curtail this, but it might be just a partial fix.

I'd like to dash any rumors of a conspiracy or restricted user access to the photos forum, although we may re-open this forum with the only option being hotlinking to a photo hosting service like Flickr or similar.

Attachments are nice... but above and beyond the call for a forum to offer IMO. The files are just too large. I vote go to linked photos only, so we can get back the photo section. There are lots of free hosts out there to keep the files, with the only drawback being if the host closes, all the photos linked to it go dead and you see little red x's in any thread where those pictures once were.
