Looking for old-style leather flight case
Heya folks,
I'm thinking of going back to the old-style brain bag. Every soft-shelled pilot case I've used and seen has front pockets, which (it turns out) are annoyingly difficult to access in the 737 due to the rather narrow clearance between the seat and the wall. I think I want to try a big, deep box so I can partition half of it for a food section and the other half for my flight kit. Anyone want to get rid of an old but serviable high-quality leather flight case? Like a Scott or Coyote Works? The interwebs have been fruitless on the quest. Many thanks for your time. |

Maybe
I have one, but I think it's a little too wide to fit a 737. It's 19 x 8.75 inches.

I love this bag (737)
Necessary? No. Nice to have? Yes. (also have the name tag and the Apple Tag container. In for a penny, in for a HUGE pound.) Saddleback Leather Company |

Before I wrote this post I was looking at these and nearly bought one. My hangup is that it has wheels and a handle, and I'm afraid that those things might reduce the usable space inside.

I'm really glad you posted this thread. I've been struggling with the same problem. I've tried two different Aerocoast bags, and a LuggageWorks bag. I have the same problem you do, it's hard to access the front pockets in flight.
I still have my old leather flight kit bag from the old Jepp binder days, but I also remember how big and unwieldy that sucker is. It fits in the 737 (that space was designed for them) but getting it in and out of there is just asking for shoulder surgery. So far I like the Aerocoast for the easiest access to things like sunglasses, flashlight, earplugs, in the top compartment without opening the bag. but I also like to carry some sun shades (Kinder Fluf), a ball cap for when the sun is in the wrong spot on approach, a small bottle of RainX because the Guppy's wipers suck, notepads, pens, extra ear tips (Clarity Aloft) etc. That what I typically carry in the outside pockets. Which leaves the inside for headset case, water bottle, and food. I have the Aerocoast headset case which allows you to attach the headset to the outside of the case. Problem there is it looks a little weird and then there's no place to put a water bottle. It's also tough to access the headset case from your seat in that configuration which means taking the bag out (usually from behind the seat) and then putting my headsets away. I've accidentally left them in the airplane using that method a couple of times. Not ideal. ill be following the thread to see what people recommend. |
