Men's Fashion Faux Pas
Nothing to do with aviation, but I thought this might help some of our more sartorially challenged members.
Men's fashion faux pas • Socks with sandals • Ill-fitting clothes: "One should never be in danger of tripping over one's own pants." • Pleated pants • Cowboy hats • Skimpy swimwear or tight pants, "The world is full of phallic symbols. Try not to create any more." • Hawaiian shirts • Pony tails when balding, "A pony tail accentuates your thinning hair." • Cargo pants at work • Outdated facial hair — soul patch, goatee, mustache or grizzly beard • Excessive tattoos and piercings Fashion do's for fall • Cashmere or merino wool sweaters • Suit, look for something traditional with modern innovations • Skinny tie • Skinny pants • Skinny suit • Key colors: tan, beige, pale gray and black • Fabrics: tweed, herringbone • Leather bag • Rain shell http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...fashion09.html |
Instead of "Outdated Facial Hair" listing all types of facial hair (With the exception of 'Chops) why don't they just say "No Facial Hair".
Well, I guess I have good news, I fall into the fashion Do's. The sad I didn't know that I did until that article:p
I don't wear them at this job, but used to have some cargo khaki's that I flight instructed in, loved those pants!!! All that other crap is just what a Metro-sexual male would wear. Not to mention I'm far from a "skinny" defined type of guy:D
No Hawiian Shirts? That's not going to work...we're airline pilots (and a lot of ex-military officers).
What's wrong with pleated pants? Inquiring minds want to know.
Pleated pants make your butt (and your stomach) look bigger than they really are.
Hawaiian shirts are ok depending on how colorful the fabric. I've seen orange ones that you can use as a safety vest on your walk arounds. Cargo pants are nice, I think. Soul patches are so ..... gross. I'm glad it's outdated. Cowboy hats are ok as long you leave them on to cover your bald head. I don't know why the author lists the faux pas like that. Perhaps he wants us to buy his book. |
Just about all those "dos" for fall would set my Gaydar a pinging.
The author definetly sounds like a seattle yuppie.
Cashmere? Good grief.
In retrospect, I can appreciate wearing a uniform because I don't have to fit any "styles" of the day, especially ones thought up by fashion fairys. I wonder if the author would lump in flight suits with cargo pants. |
