Book Review: The Outer Whorl

I just got done reading The Outer Whorl, by Neal A. Schier. There was a review on APC a few months ago so, I decided to try it out.

I loved the compilation of different essays, and how he ties them together!! There were some interesting stories, as well as thought-provoking ideas introduced throughout the book. He looks at some differences in cultures that he has experienced. The idea of what leadership is. He talks about pessimism in the cockpit, as far as expecting an emergency. Lastly, he ends the book with some of his great memories of flying.

From the book:
"My memories are of flying along the west side of the Himalayas on a perfectly clear day. Of flying very low over the Alps one moonlit night during the first Gulf War. Riding a bicycle down the runway during the evening at a former Belgian paratrooper base in central Zaire. The lights of Hong Kong harbor in the middle of the night as seen from the hotel."

And the list goes on.

I also just finished reading it and think it's a really good book. I would suggest it if you want a good aviation read...Some of his stories are great.
