Lowest Flyby Ever!!

I am sorry, I have seen many low flybys in my day. Participated in a few as a Tomcat airshow pilot. But this guy in the first F-4 has to hold the record for successful Low Pass. Any lower, by just a little bit and it would not have been a successful one!! If I had to guess who it was, it would be the Brits out of Akrotiri, Cypress. Those guys were nuts.

That was amazing!

For straight and level I think this may even be lower (about :46 seconds in).

They were so low in that Tomcat that it initially looks like they are on wheels....

This F4 is alledgedly at 5 feet:

It happens right around 39 seconds. I've also seen a photo of an Su-37 on Airliners.net that was flying at less than 3 feet over the runway. I don't see why pilots attempt to do this stuff though, can you imagine what would have happened if that F4 hit that dirt mound with the people on it?

Correction: 51 seconds looks like the 5 foot pass.

The third guy in this one looks like he doesn't miss the chain-link fence by much...

Not to take too much away from the other flybys, but the F-4 one is so tricky for two reasons, first it is over water, and second he is manuevering. Getting that low over water and living to tell about it is very difficult. All these are pretty impressive though!

To add to the level of difficulty in the F4 pass; It looks like he's cutting across the bow of the ship (and below the deck). His site line, at least momentarily, isn't along his flight path. Nuts indeed!

Here is a compilation clip that has a few good shots.

Fair warning: turn your volume down unless you like euro trash-disco. Also, remember that best you can ever do is tie for "lowest". :)
