Pilots aren't the only ones to arm themselves.

I wish the IRS would let me carry a gun. There are many times when I wanted to shoot a customer or two. And sometimes the customer is so desperate, he wants me to shoot him!

Of course they need to gun, how else would they fend off a space alien attack?

Maybe the Russians treat their astronauts like Andy treated Barney. Gave him the gun, but made him keep the bullet in his pocket...

im guessing if there are aliens thats some russian pea shooter proably isnt going to deter them very much......not the first time that the russians have had weapons in space....during the 1970s they had a manned spy station in orbit which was equipped with a large gun 25mm cannon i think, suposedly used for shooting down enemy satellites even though it was never used.....

How does one get that job? USV pilot. Would be fun tracking down enemy (competition) satellites and getting the kill :P

there was a nova show about this space espionage program...all the astronauts were soviet air for pilots...they were seperate from the regular space program....the USA had a similar program as well with military pilots trained as astronauts as well.....us program was scrapped for unmanned spy satelites.....
