Sky,
That is very true -- many pilots would have been happier in another line of work. Unfortunately, those who "wisely choose" to forego a dream (such as an aviation career), will always regret that too. No amount of evidence will convince them that they couldn't, somehow, have "had it all". SkyHigh |

I hopefully mentioned that a lucky few do get it all but many more loose everything in the attempt. Some get lucky the rest have to choose.

I think that it's silly that in our society (USA) you have to be at least 21 years old to set foot into a bar and/or have your lips touch the open end of a beer bottle, but you can get married at a younger age!!! The minimum age for marriage should be at least 30. Also, they should have "bouncers" at the entrances of jewelry stores to check the IDs of every male who attempts to enter, and deny entry to those who are underage!

This goes for any worthwhile career field. I don't think it's as black and white as you are implying and I think there are more content family men/pilots than you think. Also, there are trade-offs in any worthwhile career field.
Most of the time it is very difficult to have a good family life and dream career. There are too many variables that are out of our control. Occasionally someone lucks out but at some point most of us will have to choose between career and family. SkyHigh |
only advise i would have is to make sure that she realizes what u do and what goes on with your job. i wouldn't suggest doing like i did and marry a girl u knew before you flew. she finds it hard to adjust what she wants/expects from me. in a way we have to change our relationship.
also, if u can marry a girl with a good job and makes good money, do it. life goes much easier with that additional income. fo pay isn't so bad when the better half makes 60k/year out of college. i would say get married. as long as u can keep it in ur pants when ur away from home u'll be alright. |
