Funny story

A funny thing happened to me today. This all started last Thursday when I received a voice mail from a Doctor and requested that I call him back. Between work and everything else going on, I didn't get around to returning this guys call until this morning. One of the ground school instructors I work with has been telling me that a friend of his was interested in getting back into flying and wanted to go for his instrument and commercial. I assumed that's who this Dr. guy was. I had prepared myself to explain the aircraft we use and the cost involved, etc. etc.

I called him and left a message with his receptionist. She informs me that he's currently in surgery. About 20 minutes later, he calls me back. He says hello Mr. Squawk I wanted to get in touch with you to schedule your surgery. This was totally not what I expected to hear at all. I asked him "what surgery?" He explains, "your surgery to attach your prosthesis." I briefly pause and examine my arms and legs to make sure they're still attached and then asked him what on earth is he talking about. He then says, "you know, your prosthesis to enhance your sex life." Once I heard this I was absolutely floored. I told him this has got to be a joke. He said that he was absolutely serious and from the tone of his voice I could tell he didn't find it as funny as I did. He then asked me to confirm my address and home phone number which didn't match up to his patient's. He then asked me about the work number. It was the phone number to operator for the state college I instruct for which explains how he was misdirected to my voice mailbox.

I called my wife right afterwards and told her the whole story. She works for a doctor's office and was able to look up the doctor's information and confirm that it was a legit call. As it turns out this guy is a Urologist.

So, apparently there is a 75 year old guy out there with the same name as I do that worked for the school at some point towards the end of his career who is going to have surgery to install a prosthetic "member". I didn't know you could do that. I learn something new every day.

That's what I thought at first, but the doctor did leave me the initial voice message about five days prior to that. I had my wife, who works in the medical field, use her resources and find out about the doctor. His phone number that appeared on my caller I.D. matched up to the hospital's number. Turns out it was legit. He was looking for a patient with a similar sounding name but spelled slightly different.

Sure hope the real patient doesn't hear the story. Patient privacy rights and all...
