Airline Question

There was an entertaining thread earlier this week that started by linking a pilots personal website, followed by 9 pages of comments regarding what a tool the guy was. It led me to a question.

What restrictions do your companies impose on activities in your own personal time? The website in question clearly indicated this guys airline, including pics of him in uniform with company airplanes. There was a "secret" link that led to an area of pictures of girls in various stages of dress and undress (and most troubling - a Porsche 914). The question is this - can the company take action against you for hurting their brand this way? What limits do your airlines place upon you for your outside activities, and what leeway do they have to take action against you? Is it clearly spelled out, or do they leave it ambiguous?

Short Answer: Yes.

At AE without, getting out the SOM's pretty much anything involving the Uniform is banned... Whether you are a pilot or ramp rat. Any Eagle Branded clothing is banned from ebing in Bars, or any place that alcohol is being consumed... Also we have been told to keep any pictures taken with our uniforms on very clean and tastefull. This is a no questions asked rule... And a first offense can lead to termination as far as I know.

Yes. While an airline may or may not have explicit unifom-use policies (most do) any company could easily fire you for presenting a poor public image. You don't even have to be identifiable as being associated with the company...if you were photographed doing anything considered objectional by most grandmothers, that's all they need.

Cops, military personel, flight attendants, and numerous other employees have learned this the hard way.
