Default Baby Born At 37,000 Feet

Premature baby born to US parents on a Korean Airlines flight 37,000 feet above Canada. Wonder what his citizenship is?

From Associated Press:

CAMDEN, New Jersey - A premature baby is expected to stay at Lourdes Medical Center for several weeks after being born on a Korean Air Lines flight.

Jadan Brown was delivered last Wednesday by his father Larry, a trained emergency medical worker, and a Korean surgeon who happened to be onboard the flight from the Philippines to New York City, the hospital said Monday.

"I really didn't have time to think about what was happening," Larry Brown, of Sicklerville, New Jersey, told the hospital.

Brown's wife Jacel was about seven months into her pregnancy when she started to go into labor in the middle of the 14-hour flight.

The baby was born on the floor of the plane's galley at about 37,000 feet above northern Canada, the hospital said.

Jadan Brown weighed less than 3 pounds. He was stabilized at a New York hospital after the plane landed, and was transported to Lourdes late Thursday.

Dr. Sherrilynn Parrish, an obstetrician at Lourdes, said Monday that the baby and mother are doing well.

"This is really remarkable — especially since the baby was so premature," Parrish said.

I thought women in their third trimester were not allowed to fly. I know it was premature but 7 months is still in the third trimester. Anyone???

At least the parents were US citizens...that should make it a fairly less televised event...

Good thing it wasn't twins. KAL only allows one carry-on.

I think most airlines cut you off at 1-2 weeks prior to the due date...so this happens occasionaly.

third trimester was ok for my wife. Special cases cutoff at third trimester. Its the last week or two that isn't a good idea. Only my opinion.

Do you have to update the number of souls on board?
