Default Starbucks Barista - Better rest rules?

I was speaking with a barista at starbucks today when she told me that they must be given at least 10 hours between shifts. I starting thinking and realized that during much of my schedule lately I have min rest overnights of 8 to 8.5 hours. Funny that a barista should have to be more rested that a captain for a regional airline.

Considering Starbucks is about to close 100 stores nationwide and slow growth her job might be just as at risk as yours is.

Apparently people can't afford a $6 cup of coffee when gas is $4 a gallon...

Starbucks to close some stores, stop selling breakfast sandwiches

100 stores? Try 600 stores and laying off 12,000 employees. Sorry no link yet, the news broke last week some time. Actually when you think about it, it's a lot like the airline industry. Grow grow grow grow, furlough, shrink shrink shrink, grow grow.......

Right, because brewing coffee while waiting for your flight or walking from one jet to another is an option....I agree Starbucks or Seattle's Best in any airport is at least a break even proposition in today's economy. People spend money when they travel. People are generally either on vacation or on business travel so either way it's budgeted for.

For those that think $4/gallon of petro is expensive, you need to live in Europe or Japan for a few years. Our problem is that we're spoiled and have grown way to comfortable with cheap fuel. Bottom line is this, we're still not paying what most in Europe or Asia pay for gas yet we use the most in comparison(China not included). Fix the strength of the dollar and gas will follow.
