Great Idea for Jet Fuel Prices

I think we should tax cargas MORE, then use that tax revenue to subsidize diesel and jet A.

Logic: individuals can change their lives to use less car gas and energy--get rid of your stupid SUV for your 30 mile commute, move closer to work, get a bike, get an electric car (if Detroit ever wises up and starts making them again) run your A/C less than sub-zero in the summertime....but airlines and OTR trucking/freight, and agricultural industries actually HAVE to have diesel and jet fuel to survive. You can't run a tractor or a jet on electricity....but cars and homes can be run with electricity with existing tech.

Taxes on car gas are high enough. If oil remains high, I think the government should consider some sort of pro-rated jet fuel subsidy. I believe in free market capitalism, but the loss of an airline or two based on oil prices will do this economy great harm. There's no need to completely subsidize jet fuel, but a system which reflect different levels of price might be fair. If oil exceeds X price, then the government subsidizes Y price. Just a thought.

My wife’s the head of HR/Recruiting at her company. Unless you are highly skilled (engineer, doctor, etc) jobs are on the decline everywhere. It’s not a good time to do anything except go back to school and even then...........tuition's going through the roof.

I agree, but I think the extra tax should be spent on renewable energy investments. I think if your a pilot you need to decide if you want a job or do you want somebody to be able to drive 30 miles to work each day alone in their hummer? If oil prices go back down people will revert to their old ways and trucks and SUV's will start selling. Everything will be great again and high oil prices will fade away from our thoughts. Then in another few years or even months we will be faced with high oil prices again. It would be better to add more tax to automobile gas (whenever the price goes down) and have that pay for the infrastructure that will help build a serious renewable energy network in this country. The tax will also help to curb demand in the country and will therefore keep the price of jet fuel down for the airlines. By just giving airlines subsides for jet fuel you are still using tax payer money but you are not getting the benefit of helping to solve the problem in the long run.

Post on APF, then hit the bong - not the other way around.

I think we should impose a massive tax on mass transportation and use the money to subsidize fuel prices. The bus and subway riders have been getting an almost free ride on the back of us hummer drivers for years now and I think it is time that they pay us back.:)
