You just have to wonder about people. Everyone wants modern convienences and in the case of energy.....we all want that too. But NO ONE it seems wants any of it in around them. Wait till the nuclear movement gets really moving .... crap the ultra left enviro whackos will scream.

Amazingly enough, some of those folks are starting to come around on nuclear...no pollution, oil wars, or greenhouse gases. There about 30 new plants in permitting right now.

Its usually the locals that will get vocal in the end......... NIMBY NIMBY. Years ago I lived in NC for nearly 11 years. The entire time I lived there the people and govt of the state of NC argued and complained about proposed nuclear power waste facilities. NC has several very large Nuke plants that supply alot of NC power. The people of the state wanted the cheap power but had no stomach for the whole package..... everything comes with compromise..... but EVERY proposed location was shot down by those opposed.

Generally speaking I've got no problem with nuclear power- as a matter of fact on is 10 miles away and I keep potassion iodide (gov't issued) in the cupboard.
I will say this- my electrical rates are 30% higher than the towns next door. Why- my little burg thought it smart to invest in nuclear power 25-30 years ago as part of a consortium of town across NC.
They got hosed n overruns. And now are paying 30% extra forever.

Of course, a lot of resistance on nuclear power is the waste issue. A lot of people think that the Yucca Mountain waste site in Nevada is unsafe.
Apparently, they think that the current situation where the waste is stored around the country, on site without robust security, is better.
