Take her camping and hope for a crappy weekend- you'll see how she handles pressure and discomfort. Has worked well for friends- some cut her loose and other's held her tighter. Either way it tends to be a good indicator on several fronts.

Good luck and have fun.

P.S. My wife's a die hard camper.

This is actually pretty sound advice... If the woman cant handle a few bugs and a sleeping bag, how is she going to handle your snoring @$$?

SAAB,

Congratulations. Might I recommend making the day of the proposal as special and memorable as possible. It doesn't have to be anything fancy or planned out, but a day that she would fondly remember even if you didn't propose during it. I took my wife on a trip to Sedona after Christmas and spent the day wandering through Oak Creek Canyon and around the red rocks. Followed it up by a nice quiet dinner at which I proposed.

Do try to get her ring size before you buy the ring though. My wife's is about half a size too big and she is terrified that it will fall off her ring finger. She refuses to have it resized because she doesn't want to "ruin it" so she wears it on her middle finger. She can be a bit strange from time to time but I love her.

No matter what happens, tell her you lover her each and every day.

Get her drunk first:)

Congrats!

Find out in your inner friends and family if they have any local jewlers- she may have one, unless it's a surprise- you are looking for 40% off the listed price- that's the price a good jeweler gives you on a rock. A really good one gives you the paid value toward any future upgrades/trade-ins on other rocks. Bummer, mine retired... Anywho- The appraisal will be for the full value, the diamond certs these days are pretty slick, just don't over or undersize it, get too many or too few carats, get the right other C's, metal type for the band, etc- and by all means get camping first! Hopefully you know the cut and setting she wants already, you own the carats and overall quality........ Hopefully.....

Sure hope mom approves- I've seen the prenup deal go sour, not a pretty sight, same direction you're in. Tailwinds....

If it's a surprise, don't sweat a resize- just guess on the large side- worked for me.

Mine was a Jerzey girl, worth it too. Just don't propose from knife edge at an airshow- been there, done that- turns out to be on par with the scoreboard trick at a Yankees game....
