Pilatus PC6 Porter

http://www.airliners.net/photo/Pilat...rbo/1370064/M/Has anyone ever had the chance to fly the Porter? It looks awful but has some fantastic short field abilities. Looking into buying one, so if anyone has flown one, I'd love to hear about your experience.

My goodness, that's a pretty Turbo Porter. The only one I've flown was a ratty old jump ship.. but what a riot!

How'd she fly?
Any major/minor problems?
What was the fuel burn average?

I only got a few minutes on the stick, rode around in the right seat a bit though. Its only problems I knew of were particular to that aircraft...

Flew like a truck. Manual everything - flaps and trim were on cranks mounted above the pilot's head. Long-stroke extension on the gear, kind of like the L-60 i flew a time or two (Czech copy of the Feisler Storch). It was flying for a few moments before the wheels left the ground.

A nice one, like the one you posted, is on the list of planes to own when I win the lottery.

My company operate five or six of these in the Sahara. The pilots flying them think they are a blast, real flying. It's pretty amazing to see them take off in a strong headwind. Slow as he!! though, even compared to the mighty Twotter. Be prepared to work hard at landing in strong w-winds..

Nice plane, workout for your feet in x-winds though. :D
