Wasn't really sure where to post this.

It does lead me to think about f/a's occupying the flight deck when a crewmember is in the lav. I personally would not let them occupy the left seat if I was flying but what are the actual regs?

Once again the public is full of morons who will take this the wrong way. The article wasn't about the FA in the seat but that the CA was not in it. As stated, CA's have to use the bathroom and a FA will come up front.

Also, what about that other thing, what's it called....oh yeah a First Officer, I bet they could handle things and respond to ATC.

Yes the FA should not be in the seat but this is being blown way out of proportion. The person who posted these pictures obviously didn’t know the windfall this could/will create.

In some cockpits they'd have to be standing hunched over in the doorway if they don't take a seat. I think it's better if they just sit down as long as the seat is moved all the way back and sideways so there is enough room to easily get into the chair.

I certainly know which I've seen on the line 100% of the time.

I normally make them stand by the door looking out the peephole.

Technically it would be rather difficult to have a conversation anyway above FL250. I guess it all depends on how strict the capt. is :)

This also happened in Australia in an Aussie airline. Their regs might be different.

Yes, as long as they don’t touch anything and can easily get up and out then I personally see no problem.

Read some of the comments from that **news** site. And you wonder where the public gets such ideas and why they seem to have such little respect for the profession:

"Gotta agree with you, ****. It's just a pretty girl sitting in a seat. So what? The planes today practically fly themselves, don't they? I would bet we don't even need pilots in the planes anymore. Probably safer to let the computers take off, fly and land the planes. They don't need sleep, they don't drink and they can keep their hands off the stewardesses."

This second quote sounds like a script from a bad aviation movie:

Our FA's always sit in the empty seat, due to our ops when a crew member leaves. Recently, they now need to make sure they are buckled for their own safety and can even put on the headset to communicate better with us.

They may not know too much about flying the plane, but it doesn't hurt to have a second pair of ears and eyes, not to mention to keep them safe just in case you hit a nasty bump.

Our SOP says no FAs in the pilot seats, they have to stand.
