CFI or SIC Job

Hello...i got a question. If you had the option to choose between CFi (almost done with prep.) and working as SIC in a Caravan (NOTE: THE COMPANIES OPSPECS REQUIERE A SIC SO THE TIME CAN BE LOGGED) which one you think would be a better choice....PIC/ DUAL GIVEN or SIC/TURBINE. That is for a low time pilot....clearly.

Thanks for your opinions.

The Caravan time will be worthless. Unless you use it as proof in type for another Caravan job.

Turbine time sounds tempting, but I agree it will be worthless without some PIC time.;)

Since airline hiring has slowed down so much I'd get your CFI, CFII and MEI and do some instruction for a year or so and then go from there... Otherwise you’ll be stuck as an FO for years. On the other hand, your instructing background might help you later if you want to volunteer for the training department at your next airline... Just my worthless 1/2 ˘

Good luck to you.

Yeah I would defiantly go for the CFI... even if it is only for 200 hours. Not only is the SIC time in a Caravan basically worthless, you'll learn so much more as an instructor. Can you get the C-208 gig part-time?

I guess it all kinda depends on what you're after in your career. If you want to move up to jets, SIC time in a single turbine will be one of the last things employers are after... The best way to move up to jets is to get twin PIC time, and the best way to get that is to become and instructor and teach until you reach 135 mins (1200 hours).

However if you want to stay single turbine (C-208, PC-12, TBM) then yeah, I would say go for it.

IMHO

Well if your a low time pilot in order to become a captain in a C208 I'm assuming its a 135 operator, you'll need 1200tt 100night and 500xc. That may take a little while. SIC/Turbine time in a single pilot certified aircraft is worthless unless you upgrade and build PIC turbine.
I think its in your best interest to finish your CFI's and instruct. I never finished my CFI's and I kick myself at times because if I get furloughed right now those CFI ratings can be a fall back. Flight schools are always hiring as opposed to the airlines right now. Just food for thought.

Gotta ask -
Where's the "cent" sign on your keyboard?

whatever pays more and is closer to home.

I'd try to do both. The Caravan job, may lead to PIC or a better job. Still it's only got one engine, so it's still pretty worthless. Do the CFI thing, get all your ratings and teach multi. Mutli time is gold. Work on that.

I took a part-time SIC job in a Part 135 twin turbo-prop that lead to a PIC twin turbo-prop job. SIC in a single pilot plane can be good as it does introduce you to new types of flying and leads to better job/flight time. Just remember to use it and move on.

Well, first of all thank you for your insights....now the deal is that as soon as i hit 1200h I can get the upgrade to Captain and get the PIC time. AND then here is the thing...the option of upgrading to either a E-190 or a320.(It is all the same company)

Believe it or not, no multi min. is requiered.

My main concern was the lack of PIC and how that could affect me, not for this specific company because it is not the case, but in the overall/general industry.

So in other words, do you guys/gals out there think that having low PIC but SIC A320 or E190 a good trade?

And no, it is not in the USA.

Again, thanks for the advice.
