Wink Funniest Car Rental story......

What is your funniest car rental story? Just curious. I watched a show and they put this guy up to acting mentally challenged and renting a car in a straight jacket. If he could get someone to rent to him he won money. Anyways, some companies turned him down but he finally was able to get a car from one company. I was wondering if anyone has ever saw anything this goofy.

Once I saw a guy who had to cross an interstate, run across and active runway, trudge through snow banks to get to a parking lot where the car was not there. He was trying to get home for Thanksgiving.

Hertz gave my dad the wrong car once, so he topped it off with a garden hose right before we brought it back.

Well, I think my story is kind of funny. My wife, child and I landed in PWM for 10 days of vacation. We rented a car with unlimited mileage from Alamo and drove the daylights out of the car (mileage wise speaking) and returned it with about 2800 miles for the 10 days.

"Miles in", said the sweet, matronly, grandmother-type agent.

"12,092", said I.

"Um, OK, that's...YOU DROVE HOW FAR?!"

"Honey, you and the kid get outta here...I'll try to hold her off."

Apparently it was a franchise operation and they, not Alamo, owned most of the cars. She was not happy at all.

Driving it back "after" you put water in the gas tank is a little suspect as well.

He topped it off across the street (and out of sight) from the rental place. There was still enough clean fuel in the system to get it back.
