They're points defined by navigational aids (two VORS, distance + radial of one VOR, NDB, LOC, etc). The one's that you see on your Sectional are the same ones used on Low-Alt IFR maps.
My faves would be GOONS around the Georgia / Alabama borders, TEPEE and ZEXYY around Tampa, FL, and THNDR near Pahokee, FL |
