How the Mountain West will save college football

Conference consolidation will be the response to the fan demand for playoffs. The Big 12 will merge with the Mountain West and form a 3 division conference. The addition of the mountain division to the existing Big 12 north and south divisions will provide 3 playoff teams. (TCU will move to the south and CSU will move to the north). The best runner up (decided by conference rules) will round out the 4 team, two week playoff. Teams will be limited (by the conference) to 10 games to allow for the two week tournament. Tournamnet TV Profit sharing for the also rans will offset the revenue loss of a game or two.

Other conferences, except for the slow moving Big 10, will quickly follow with consolidation. The winner of the Big12/MW conference will play the winner of the SEC/TBD conference for the title every year.

No way the MW with 3 good teams will merge with the Big 12. TCU, BYU, and Utah are up and down and the rest of the MW are usually down, no way they compete on a yearly basis with Texas, OU, Mizzou and the others. It would be like adding 6 more Baylors to the Big 12.
